Falls are the leading cause of injury for adults ages 65 years and older.
Here’s a stat worth paying attention to:
👉 1 in 4 adults 65+ report falling each year—that’s more than 14 million older adults in the U.S. alone!
But here’s the part I really want you to remember:
✨ Falling is NOT an inevitable part of getting older.
A fall happens when you lack the balance, strength and reflexes to react quickly when something throws you off…and you go down. 😣
Trip on a curb.
Miss a step.
Lose your footing.
Your body needs to recognize what’s happening and respond quickly enough to recover.
And you don’t have to wait until 65 to work on it.
The time to train your balance is BEFORE you start losing it.
A single fall can change your independence in an instant—but improving the physical skills that help you stay on your feet can start today. Balance, strength, and quick reactions are trainable at any age. Train them now so when life knocks you off balance, your body is better prepared to keep you standing.
Want to prevent falls? Don’t just stand still—train your balance while you move!
Fitness Tip to Prevent Falls
Static balance is holding your body steady in one place—like standing on one foot.
Your toes grip the floor, and your ankle, shin, hip and core muscles work to keep you upright.
✔️ Try it: Stand on one foot, lift the opposite knee, & firmly exhale to engage your core.
Dynamic balance is staying steady *while in motion—*and THAT is what’s essential for real life.
Think stepping off a curb, climbing stairs, hiking uneven ground, or catching yourself after a stumble.
Standing on one foot is a great start.
But life rarely asks us to balance while holding perfectly still!
👉 Train your balance in motion, too.
Here are a few fun balance drills to practice.👇
Extra Tip: Do these exercises as a circuit moving through each for 3-4 rounds. Exhale firmly to keep your core engaged and move with as much control as possible.
Strong bones are part of your fall-prevention plan, too. Nourishing your body now can help build the resilience you’ll want if a fall ever does happen.
Nutrition Tip of the Week
Along with plenty of PROtein and PROduce, calcium and vitamin D are key players in maintaining strong bones as you age.
You can get calcium from foods like yogurt, cottage cheese, milk or fortified alternatives, leafy greens, and canned fish with bones.
Vitamin D is harder to get from food alone, but fatty fish, egg yolks, and fortified foods can help.
Keep it simple:
Build calcium-rich foods into your daily routine and include vitamin D sources regularly.

You may not notice the payoff tomorrow.
