Best Morning Stretch For ALL The Tight Spots

Say goodbye to achy mornings

Getting a good night’s sleep is hard enough in midlife - night sweats, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, and the list goes on.

The last thing you want to be dealing with when you wake up is a stiff, achy body. 😩

To top it off, when your joints are stiff and achy, you’re more likely to move with poor posture, compensation patterns, and reduced ranges of motion.

All of which lead to greater joint issues down the road.

Intentionally getting rid of that stiffness matters!

JUST ONE THING

A full workout session in the morning is great.

But sometimes you just need ONE simple stretch that gets the kinks out right away.

Just One Thing to Feel Great in the Morning

Stretch your back, hips and shoulders

It’s common to feel like you need to stretch and move to “lubricate” your joints to get rid of stiffness.

And the spots that probably feel the tightest in the morning are your hips, lower back, upper back, and shoulders.

Believe it or not, this one stretch helps all of them!

Best Morning Stretch for Stiff Back & Hips

  1. Sit on the edge of your bed or chair, then cross one ankle over the other knee to release your hip muscles.
  2. Without letting your pelvis tuck under, rotate your torso to face the bent knee and then reach your arm behind you.
  3. Sit very tall with good posture—Hold the stretch for 3-5 deep breaths per side

Extra Tip: If the figure-4 position is too challenging, you can turn it into a simple hamstrings stretch instead. (Watch the demo here)

  • Are you a side sleeper? Try placing a pillow between your knees to ease hip pain—especially hip (trochanteric) bursitis. If you sleep on your back, a pillow under your knees can help reduce low back pain.
  • A short core routine in the morning is the perfect complement to your stretches to get you feeling strong and balanced throughout the day. Try this free routine!
  • The stronger and more flexible your body gets by doing a good fitness routine consistently, the fewer aches and pains you'll feel when you wake up.
